Derailment blocks Gainesville RR crossing

GAINESVILLE - Georgia Avenue between Industrial Boulevard and Marler Street was shut down about noon today because of a train derailment on that side of Gainesville.

Gainesville Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said an engine separated from several box cars and slipped off the track.

"The train basically came aground, but the train didn't turn and there were no spills," he said.

Yarbrough said Georgia Avenue has been closed for several hours while the train is moved back on to the track.
