CUMMING - The Forsyth County Board of Education has voted to go ahead and open all five new schools now under construction next fall as planned.
School officials had been considering keeping two of the schools - Lakeside Middle and Brookwood Elementary - closed for at least a year because of budget constraints.
But the board voted Thursday night to open them, along with the other five.
Schools Superintendent L.C. Evans told Channel 2 Action News that in order to open all five schools on time, some class sizes will have to be larger than planned.
Forsyth County schools are trying to work around a $10 million cut in state funding.
"Just to open up those new buildings with staff and utilities is estimated to cost about $6 million," Forsyth County schools spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo said earlier this week.
