GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville/Hall 911 dispatcher heard a car accident occur while a victim was calling in the probable cause of the wreck Monday morning.
As a result Cleveland Highway, just north of Gainesville, was closed because of a traffic accident for nearly two hours.
Gainesville Police on the scene said a car with a stuck accelerator headed north struck a pickup truck, and both vehicles plunged down an embankment after colliding across from Tapawingo Drive.
"Just prior to the collision our dispatch center received a 911 call from a passenger in the car stating that the accelerator in the car was stuck," Police Lt. Gary Entrekin said. "That car came off Limestone Parkway and struck the truck on Cleveland Highway."
Entrekin added, "They were on the phone with the dispatcher and the dispatcher actually heard the accident occur; the accident occurred while she was on the phone with 911 telling them that the accelerator was stuck."
Two people in the car and the driver and only occupant of the truck were sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
The wreck was reported around 9:30 a.m, and tied up traffic until around 11:30 a.m. on the busy highway.
