CARROLLTON - Sony will lay off 100 workers at its distribution center in Carrollton in west Georgia.
Company spokeswoman Lisa Gephardt says details of how or when the layoffs will happen are not available.
She says the layoffs are due to the normal drop-off of order volume after last fall. She also cited the scheduled end to a short-term distribution agreement with a third-party customer.
Sony employees 360 people at the distribution center. The plant opened in 1981 with a manufacturing and distribution center but closed the manufacturing center in 2001.
Sony reports a 25.2 percent jump in profit for the October-December quarter today. Profit at the Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment company climbed to 1.88 billion dollars for the fiscal third quarter.
