Duluth - Into 3rd Place: Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle moved into sole possession of third place all time in ECHL history for most ECHL coaching wins in a career. Pyle posted his 333rd career coaching win in the Gladiators 3-2 shootout win over Columbia on Monday afternoon. Pyle moved past Frank Anzalone, who has 332 career wins with Nashville, Roanoke, Pee Dee and Johnstown. John Brophy holds the ECHL record for most career coaching wins with 480 with Hampton Roads and Wheeling.
All Stars! Gladiators netminder Craig Kowalski and defenseman Jamie Milam represented the Gladiators on the American Conference Squad in the 2008 ECHL All Star Game in Stockton, California. Kowalski and Milam both started for the American Conference squad in a 10-7 loss to the National Conference in the contest. Kowalski made 13 saves on 16 shots in the contest while Jamie Milam collected a holding penalty and a -2 plus/minus rating in the contest.
The Winner! Tomas Pospisil moved into a tie for second overall in the ECHL in game winning goals on Saturday night. The rookie from Sumperk, Czech Republic recorded his 6th goal of the season for Gwinnett in the Gladiators 3-1 win over Pensacola while it was his fourth game winning goal of the year. His 4 game winning goals leads Gwinnett in that category while ranking second for most game winning goals this season in the ECHL.
Just a Dozen: The Gladiators set a new team record for fewest shots allowed in a game in Saturday's 3-1 win over Pensacola. Gwinnett held the Ice Pilots to just 12 shots in the contest snapping the Gladiators old record of 13 set on January 16, 2006 against Columbia. The 12 shots by Pensacola in Saturday's contest is also an ECHL season low for fewest shots in a game. The ECHL record for fewest shots is 9 held by Bakersfield (vs. Trenton, 2/17/04) and Arkansas (vs. Greenville, 3/7/00).
Record Pace! Jeff Campbell notched a goal and an assist for Gwinnett in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots and now has 49 points on the season. Despite missing 6 games this season due to call up to the American Hockey League with Norfolk, Campbell is on pace to finish the year with 98 points which would set a new career high for points in a season for the Hensall, Ontario native. Campbell needs just 13 assists to set a new career high for assists in a season.
Looking for 50! Defenseman Jamie Milam notched an assist for Gwinnett in Sunday's 3-1 win over Pensacola to push his season assist total to 24. The assist was Milam's 49th in his ECHL career and he needs one more for 50 in his ECHL career. Milam is 21 points shy of 100 in his ECHL career and is 12 points shy of 100 in his professional hockey career.
