ATLANTA -- The father of Falcons quarterback and former Georgia star D.J. Shockley has resigned as North Clayton High School football coach after a school board investigation found he kept photos deemed inappropriate on a school computer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.
The investigation which centered on photos of an assistant principal in lingerie and sexually suggestive poses was the third probe into misconduct against Donald Shockley in five years, according to school board records obtained by the newspaper under state public records law.
Clayton County School Board spokesman Charles White told the newspaper Wednesday that Shockley resigned Jan. 7. Shockley had been placed on administrative leave with pay on Dec. 14.
Shockley was head coach at North Clayton since 1994 and an employee in Clayton County schools for 23 years. He also was the school's athletics director.
In the latest incident, Shockley acknowledged an intimate consensual relationship with an assistant principal, according to a school board investigative report obtained by the Atlanta newspaper. The report concluded that keeping the images on his computer represented ``a failure to adhere to a written directive, which constitutes insubordination.'' The report recommended a long term suspension or termination of employment.
The assistant principal also has resigned, White said.
Shockley's 14-year coaching record is 82-66-1. Some of his top former players include his son D.J. Shockley, a current Falcons and former Georgia quarterback, and Georgia Tech freshman Morgan Burnett.
