DELAND, FLORIDA - Stetson's Garfield Blair scored 18 points and connected on a short fall-away jumper with 5.6 seconds left for the winning basket in a 76-74 victory over Mercer on Saturday night.
Mercer's James Florence attempted a last-second shot from the top of the arc that bounced off the rim. Florence and teammate Shaddean Aaron scored a game-high of 25 points each.
Stetson (8-10) won its fourth straight conference game after losing its Atlantic Sun Conference opener. Mercer (8-10) slipped to 3-2 in conference.
A.J. Smith led Stetson with 19 points, while Eric Diaz had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Brian Pfohl chipped in 12 points for Mercer.
Stetson led by as many as 16 points with 13:42 to play before Florence and Aaron led the Bears back. Florence scored 19 points, including 12 on four 3-pointers, the rest of the way and Aaron had 11 points, including a 3-pointer that gave Mercer a 74-71 advantage with 2:28 to play.
Stetson scored the final five points. Blair made one of two free throws before Smith made two charity tosses to tie it at 74. Blair made the game-winner from inside the paint.
