New lanes on Dawsonville Highway open

GAINESVILLE - The third time was the charm: the new lanes along a section of Dawsonville Highway (GA Hwy 53) opened late Tuesday morning.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) tried twice in late December to open the lanes but wet, cold weather prevented it and the holidays got in the way. So, they had to wait until Tuesday - and this time, they were successful.

The two eastbound eastbound lanes from Manor Ridge Drive to the Jerry Jackson Bridge and the two westbound lanes from Sidney Drive to Manor Ridge Drive are now open. They are part of the mammoth project that is turning the road into a four-lane west of the Jerry Jackson Bridge at Gainesville Marina.
