LULA - The Lula Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has a chairman. Jim Grier was elected to the post Thursday night by his fellow Authority members. Teresa Myers was elected secretary and Barbra Moore as treasurer.

"Progress is coming to Lula whether we like it or not and the Development Authority's role is going to be to attract development that's going to be a cohesive force for our city, rather than a disruptive force," said Chairman Grier.

The DDA also formally adopted its by-laws, including a provision to meet the first Thursday of every month at Lula City Hall and to elect officers every other August. The Authority also agreed to align its fiscal year with the fiscal year of the City Council, meaning it will run July 1st through June 30th.

The DDA also unanimously agreed to recognize its current boundaries as the city of Lula and recent annexations.

City Manager Dennis Bergin asked Authority members to consider the future implications of their decisions, "and work with the development community to understand where they would play a role in that picture."
