HCS features Hall of Fame recognition for James Mills

By Staff Report
GAINESVILLE - This week's "Hall County Sports" television show features coverage of this past Sunday's induction ceremonies at the Georgia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Former Johnson wrestler and current State Representative James Mills was among those honored. Mills received the Hall's "Outstanding American" Award.

Mills is a 1981 Johnson High academic honor graduate who served as Captain of the Knight's wrestling team. He also lettered in football and baseball, and still holds the school record for most passes caught in a game, with 16.

As a member of Hopewell Baptist, Mills has led several short-term mission trips abroad, including one to the Ukraine where he spoke to the Olympic Wrestling team.

As a legislator, Mills was instrumental in efforts to secure funds for a mat and equipment at Johnson High. He also authored House Resolution 246, a measure that urged the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and its member institutions to establish programs for intercollegiate wrestling.

Mills also made headlines in 2006 when he ran down a mugger in Atlanta and wrestled him to the ground, where he kept the bandit at bay until police arrived.

Over 360 people turned out for Sunday's induction ceremony at the Northeast Atlanta Hilton in Norcross. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame is based in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

"Hall County Sports" is seen in the Gainesville area on Charter Communications channel 23 at 9 p.m. Thursdays; 10 a.m. Saturdays and 9.p.m. Sundays.

DVD copies of the show may be ordered for $30 each at www.northgeorgiaproductions.com, or by calling 770-297-0528.
