Dawsonville Hwy reopens after bridge wreck

By from staff reports
GAINESVILLE - Dawsonville Highway was closed for a time Monday afternoon after a wreck between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck on Bolling Bridge at the Hall/Forsyth line.

The wreck happened shortly after 1pm. The pickup truck was pulling a backhoe on a trailer, and there was a fuel spill on the bridge. The pickup driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hall County Deputies closed the bridge, and traffic was diverted in both directions until the bridge reopened around 3pm.

The bridge closing turned into a huge traffic tie-up for motorists; it was especially frustrating for Debora Pruitt, who lives just across the bridge in Forsyth County and was stuck on the Hall County side until the wreckage was cleared.

"It makes you want to say at home," she said. "I could swim and get home but the officers said no."

Pruitt said when a wreck happens on the bridge, everybody is stopped.

"You don't go anywhere if you live right here at the bridge," she said. "I could go through the back roads but I'd be stuck on the other side."
