New report on immigrants needing help learning English

WASHINGTON - A new report says Georgia ranks among the states whose immigrants need the most help in improving their English language skills.

Cox News Service, reports that the study also calls for fine-tuning the ways in which states fund such programs. The study calls them "inadequate" for meeting immgrants' English instruction needs.

The Migration Policy Institute, a Washington-based think tank that studies the global movement of people, conducted the study.

It found that in Georgia alone, there are about 68,000 adult lawful permanent residents and another 154,000 illegal immigrants 17 and older suffering from inadequate English language skills.
