Warner Robins advances to Little League finals Saturday

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Payton Purvis hit a pair of two-run homers, and Warner Robins pounded out 14 hits Thursday night to rout Chandler, Arizona, 16-6, to advance to the U.S. finals of the Little League World Series.

Warner Robins (3-1) batted around in the first and fifth innings. Taylor Lay ended the game in the fifth with an RBI double that scored Georgia's 16th run, triggering Little League's 10-run rule.

Warner Robins will play unbeaten Lubbock, Texas, for the U.S. title on Saturday. The winner of that game will meet the international champion for Little League World Series title, won last year by a team from Columbus, Georgia.

Down five, Chandler (2-2) rallied to 9-6 in the top of the fifth after a two-run homer by Kyle Pechloff.

Then came Georgia's fifth-inning outburst.

Purvis hit the second of his two-run shots in that inning. Two more runs later scored on an error, and Hunter Jackson had a two-run single before Lay's game-finishing hit.

The first two-run homer for Purvis came in the fourth.

Chandler (2-2) had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by James Ziegler and a sacrifice fly by Pechloff.

A two-run double by David Umphreyville Jr. highlighted a five-run first for Warner Robins, when they sent 10 boys to the plate.

Warner Robins plays again Saturday against Southwest region champ Lubbock, Texas,at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Williamsport. The winner of that game plays at 3:30 p.m. Sunday for the world title. ABC will broadcast those games.
