GAINESVILLE - Music lovers brought their lawn chairs and picnic suppers to enjoy the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra's annual Patriotic Pops Concert Tuesday night.
The orchestra completed its silver anniversary with the summertime performance at the Brenau University Amphitheater.
Maestro Dr. Gregory Pritchard promised plenty of John Phillip Sousa, and the audience tapped their toes in cadence with among other selections,'Washington Post', and George M. Cohan's 'Its a Grand Old Flag'.
The music brought back memories for the young at heart, and for the young, inspiration from America's rich heritage in sound and song.
The selections included the music of Broadway composer Richard Rogers Victory at Sea from the epic World War Two television documentary of the 1950's, the haunting Oshoken Farewell Ken Burns PBS series, the Civil War.
Another highlight was the Armed Forces salute honoring the branches of military service.
