A man drove from Atlanta to Yonkers with flowers and a loaded handgun to talk to his estranged wife, then apparently shot her to death before turning the gun himself, authorities said.

"Our preliminary investigation is that it was a murder-suicide," said Yonkers Detective Capt. William Cave, commander of the city's Detective Division.

Police said Kapil Kohli, 43, drove to Yonkers in a rental car Friday. Cave said it appears his estranged wife, Anuradha Aggarwal, 40, let him into the apartment. The two were talking on couches in the living room, then shots rang out.

Aggarwal's mother heard the shots and walked in to see her daughter dead, police said. As she ran to the bedroom to call police, Kohli turned the gun on himself.

When police arrived, the fresh flowers that Kohli had brought for Aggarwal were still on the living room table. Detectives recovered a Glock handgun in the living room next to Kohli, and police found several spent shells in the living room.
