Georgia Tech's Thaddeus Young to remain in draft

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech forward Thaddeus Young has decided to keep his name in the June 28 NBA draft, even though he says he might have improved his draft standing if he returned for his sophomore season.

Young, who was a standout freshman last season, on Monday called his experience at Georgia Tech "one of the most memorable times" of his life.

Young said waiting another season to turn pro would improve his position in the draft.

"I fully understand that if I were to return to Tech, next year I would possibly be drafted as high as one, two or three, which would mean a lot more money," Young said. "Nevertheless, I believe that I should begin my chosen profession at this time and not consider money alone."

Young, a 6-foot-8 forward, is projected as the No. 13 pick in the first round by nbadraft.net.

Young, a native of Memphis, Tenn., averaged 14.4 points per game last season.

Another Georgia Tech freshman, point guard Javaris Crittenton, also is leaving school for the draft. Crittenton also is projected as a first-round pick.

Young and Crittenton join Dennis Scott (1990), Kenny Anderson (1991), Stephon Marbury (1996), Dion Glover (1999), Chris Bosh (2003) and Jarrett Jack (2005) as Yellow Jacket underclassmen who have entered the draft.
