Survivor of 1936 Gainesville tornado dies

GAINESVILLE - One of the oldest survivors of the 1936 Gainesville tornado that killed 203 people has died.

Sylvia Santefee Gailey Head died Sunday at the age of 104.

Head was working in downtown Gainesville the day the tornado hit. She worked with the Red Cross during the aftermath of the storm helping the injured.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday in the Strickland Funeral Home chapel.
