DALTON - The prosecution rested its case Wednesday in the murder trial of Lynn Turner, who is charged with using antifreeze to poison Randy Thompson, the father of her two children.
After nine days of testimony, the Whitfield County jury learned that Turner already is a convicted murderer. Forsyth County District Attorney Penny Penn read aloud to jurors the indictment in Turner's Cobb County murder case and the May 2004 guilty verdict before announcing the state had rested its case.
Turner, a former 911 operator, is serving a life sentence for malice murder in the 1995 antifreeze poisoning death of her husband, Cobb County police officer Glenn Turner.
She faces a possible death penalty if she is convicted of murder. Thompson, who died in 2001, was a Forsyth County firefighter.
Wednesday, Georgia's chief medical examiner, Doctor Kris Sperry, testified as to why he believed Thompson and Turner died of antifreeze poisoning.
He said it doesn't take much of the colorless, odorless substance to kill.
