The writer says "although it is uptown enough to support a Parisian-style creperie and a symphony orchestra, it is enveloped by miles of rolling pastureland tended by crusty sixth-generation farmers --- just the short of 'countrypolitan' monumentalized on the downtown square.
The article goes on to mention Old Joe, the downtown Confederate soldier statue; Lake Lanier; and the Olympic rowing venue.
Dahlonega is listed as one of the best "hideaways." It is touted as the lace where "the oxford-cloth Atlanta exurbs end and flannel-shirted Appalachia begins." The writer goes on to say "you don't have to grow a beard, but you might consider it." She goes on to mention the Appalachian Trail and it's gold mining history.
