Just Ought To Take Him Out and Shoot Him

By Stan Hall 2/6/07
Over the course of my lifetime, many sayings and quotes have come and gone. But, isn't it funny how some old sayings just seem to hang around forever? They are the ones that have lived through the depression, baby boomers, generation X and whatever the current one is. I think it is called generation Y, but it could be Z. I am not really sure. They are the ones that are always current and appropriate as to certain situations.

But, there is one that is used when someone does something that is just beyond human reasoning. Something that is so bad, that it is not deserving of the whole "innocent until proven guilty", jurisprudence ordeal. Admittedly so, it is a phrase that does not have a standard as to how bad the act must be before someone would speak it. It can be something very vile, or something very stupid, but whatever the act maybe, it is immediately recognizable as one that deserves the remark. All of us have probably said it at one time or another and have said it without any remorse. Because, in fact, they should just ought to take them out and shoot them for what they did! Maybe we can solicit our legislators to write in a new level of punishment to be added to the current misdemeanor and felony sentences. The "take em out and shoot em" level of offense.

I read about something last week, which epitomizes someone who deserves this punishment. In Arizona, a 29 year old man, who has been identified as Neil Rodreick, enrolled at a school in one of the 7th grade classes under the name of "Casey". Apparently, even though some of the school employees now state that they were suspicious, Rodreick was able to enroll, and even started a local skateboard club called Plan Z. Apparently he attended classes, and wore the school uniform, just like the others, and participated in routine functions at the school. Only after a school nurse noticed some make-up on her fingers after a vision exam, did Rodreick's plan start to unravel. After police were called in, they discovered that "Casey" was in fact a 29 year old man who shaved his body hair and wore makeup to hide his facial hair. He lived in a mobile home park with two other men, one of who was a convicted sex offender.

There is no evidence, at this point, that any of the children who had been in contact with Rodreick, have been molested. But, based on the fact that the trio have been charged with 30 counts of fraud and possession of child pornography, one might surmise what they had in mind. Thank goodness this group was arrested before something terrible occurred. Some have already started to blame the school officials for allowing the enrollment to occur. Others will certainly come to the defense of the trio citing societal reasons that would cause someone to become so confused to come up with such a plan. There is only one place where blame should be directed in this case. And that would be right toward the whiskered, albeit made-up, chin of the offender. He and his twisted cohorts should face the full wrath of punishment for this perverted conspiracy.

After nearly 30 years in the criminal justice and judicial venue, I am still amazed that anyone could deliberately and intentionally pick innocent children as their victims. And, just as I cite my amazement, I know full well why they pick kids. Children are most often no match for adult's when situations such as this come their way. With few exceptions, the news is typically a lot worse than what occurred in this case. Child predators pick children because they are cowards and would never attempt to satisfy their desires on someone who could actually physically resist them. That is the way in which cowards operate. Hopefully, all of those involved will be convicted and the next class that Rodreick enrolls in will be at the state penitentiary.

Some will say that any discussion or attempt to make an age old saying literal, which was probably first, coined for effect rather than suggesting any real action, would be just as cowardly. Of course, they would be right. However, if we did ever come up with a new level of punishment such as this, this case would most certainly be on the docket.
