Derrer retiring as Public Works Director

GAINESVILLE - Hall County Public Works Director Doug Derrer will retire this month ,after 27 years of service. Interim Director Kevin McInturff will oversee the county's engineering, road maintenance, traffic, engineering, landfill and solid waste and resource recovery operations.

The county also announced that directors of the correctional institution and animal, who previously reported to Derrer, now will report director to county Administrator Jim Shuler.

Avery Niles was sworn in Thursday as warden of the correction institution, replacing Don Nix, who is retiring after 25 years of service.
