By Ken Gustafson
SNELLVILLE - North Gwinnett quarterback Michael Tamburo connected twice with Jaison Yoshimura for two touchdowns to vault the Bulldogs past Brookwood 17-3 Friday night and into the quarterfinals of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a 20-yard Kyle Micek field goal on their opening drive.

North Gwinnett extended its lead to 10-0 on its next possession when Tamburo hit Yoshimura for a 6-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.

The Broncos tried to get on the scoreboard by riding the back of Kenny Miles, who rushed for over 200 yards in the previous meeting between the two schools earlier in the season, but the Bulldog defense held him in check most of the game.

Two big runs by Miles set up a 29-yard field goal by Zack Simmons to cut the lead to 10-3. Simmons later had a 50-yard field goal blocked just before halftime.

The Bulldogs would add to their lead midway through the third quarter when Tamburo again found Yoshimura in the end zone to make it 17-3 lead.

The Broncos had their chances to get back into the game but North Gwinnett intercepted a Terrance Davis pass to snuff their only scoring chance in the second half.

North Gwinnett next will face Newnan Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the road.
