Arrest made in Kangaroo store robbery

GAINESVILLE - A man was arrested in connection with a robbery at a Kangaroo store in Gainesville that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Gainesville Police Sargent Johnny Ray said Ira Christopher Cummings of Gainesville is charged with robbery, theft, and battery.

Ray said when the drawer to the cash register was opened, the suspect ran behind the counter and grabbed some money.

"Upon the victim opening the cash register, the black male grabbed the money causing the victim to fall," Ray said. "A struggle ensued between the resulting in the victim sustaining minor injuries."

He says the incident was caught on Kangaroo's security surveillance equipment.
