ATLANTA - Georgia Tech picked up its first player of the early signing period Thursday, landing point guard Iman Shumpert from Oak Park, Illinois.
The 6-foot-4 Shumpert averaged 15 points his junior season at Oak Park and River Forest High School before going out with a broken elbow in February.
``Iman is an outstanding student-athlete, and we feel fortunate that he's decided to attend Georgia Tech,'' coach Paul Hewitt said. ``He's a very unselfish player who has outstanding shooting ability, and he has excellent size for a point guard.''
Shumpert is a late bloomer, growing 9 inches since his freshman season and emerging as a top national prospect.
