Brookins found guilty of killing wife, stepdaughter

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- A 36-year-old Baldwin County man was found guilty Saturday of murdering his wife and 15-year-old stepdaughter.

Included in the seven counts against Brian Duane Brookins were two for felony murder and two for malice murder in the October 14th, 2006 shooting deaths of Suzanne McDade Brookins and her 15-year-old daughter Samantha Giles.

Brookins was also found guilty on one count of cruelty to children in the third degree, one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The jury deliberated 90 minutes before reaching its verdict.

The sentencing phase of the trial will begin late Saturday. The state is seeking the death penalty.
