JEFFERSON - Tougher outdoor water use restrictions are in place in Jefferson, banning use of water by some commercial entities.
The tighter restrictions ban the use of water by car washes, landscapers, other landscape professionals, and such.
"Because of our water situation, we're just not allowing any water use at all," said Public works director Jeff Killip. "The only outdoor use that is still allowed is personal food plots, but nobody's growing any food right now, so that's basically a non-issue."
A first-time violation will get you a $500 fine; a second comes with a $500 fine as well... and, a disconnect of water service for a minimum of 24 hours.
Even tough watering restictions in Jefferson can't outpace the city's growth. Killip said the Governor's mandated 10 percent water use reduction does not take that growth into effect.
"It's an unfair requirement of growing counties and growing municipalities," he said. "I think the state needs to think this out a little bit more, and address us in the situation that have enjoyed good growth."
