STATHAM - The Georgia Club, a golf and residential community located in Barrow County, will begin a "substantial" renovation of its clubhouse this month. Plans call for the addition of almost 12,000 square feet to the existing 37,000-square-foot clubhouse.
The Georgia Club, now home to nearly 125 families, has grown its membership to nearly 200 and in the last year alone hosted more than 50 weddings, special events and meetings.
"The clubhouse is the showpiece of our community. It is where members and guests gather and celebrate milestones in their lives," said Jim Vanden Berg, CEO of The Georgia Club. "This expansion speaks to the quality of our offerings and the passion of our members for the club. I'm thrilled that in just three years we are able to make this investment to significantly enhance our member and event services."
While under construction, a special events pavilion will be available for dining, select weddings, receptions, and meetings. The pavilion will include a kitchen, carpeting, chandeliers and heating and cooling system. The club's Village Hall will also be available for special functions. When the clubhouse renovation is complete, the facility will be better equipped to seamlessly host special events without interruption to everyday member and dining services.
The expansion and renovation efforts will be completed in separate phases. Phase I work will focus on tripling the size of the ballroom to seat nearly 340 people and will add wireless internet connectivity and LCD projection to accommodate meetings and lectures. When complete, the club will offer more than 5,300 square feet of ballroom and meeting space. During Phase I, The Georgia Club will also enlarge the commercial kitchen, create a pre-function area and add a dedicated banquet service area. The first phase is scheduled to be completed by late summer or early fall of 2007.
Phase II construction will bring improvements to dining areas--including the addition of private dining space--as well as the construction of new offices and enhancements, such as a porte cochere covered drop-off area, to the entrance way.
There will be limited periods of reduced clubhouse service during both phases of construction, but food and beverage service will continue throughout most of the renovation process.
NCG Architecture of Atlanta will oversee the expansion and renovation project. The contractor will be Malone Construction in Atlanta and Niles Bolton will oversee the interior design work.
