Gang beating at Buford school

By by Ken Stanford
BUFORD - Several middle school girls face disciplinary action following what authorities say was a gang-related beating at a Buford school.

Police say it was part of a gang initiation and happened at Glenn C. Jones Middle School.

"Middle schools are the number one place where you're going to get recruited," said Officer Doug Schad with the Lawrenceville Police Department.

"It's been very good. My son's had no problems, he hasn't been bullied at all so I'm just very surprised that has happened," said parent Laura Turner.

They say it was voluntary - a "beat-in" is what they called it, in which the "victim" subjects himself or herself to a beating in order to be allowed to become a part of a gang.
