GAINESVILLE - Chances are there's a spot in your house... a drawer, a box, up on a shelf... that's become a graveyard for your old cellphones.
Now you can get rid of the old phones and help a good cause.
Merry Howard manages the Gainesville-Hall County Senior Center, which is partnering with the National Council on Aging to collect old cellphones for recycling. "Everybody has cellphones that I know they're stuffing into drawers at home because they're upgraded," she said.
Collected cell phones are either recycled for their precious metals according to EPA standards or are refurbished for use in developing countries.
You can drop off your phone at the Senior Center, or any city office, beginning Thursday, February 1.
