The former executive director of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority was extradited from Georgia Friday to face child pornography charges in Virginia, police said.

Kevin Scott Morris, 34, is charged in a Jan. 8 indictment with 20 counts of child pornography possession, South Boston police chief Mick Reed said.

Police began investigating Morris after a development authority official found images of young females in sexually explicit poses on an authority laptop computer in December 2005, authorities said. Morris had used the laptop, Reed said.

The girls have not been identified, Commonwealth's Attorney Kim White said.

"We had the computer evaluated by a forensic expert in the Richmond Police Department, but unfortunately our case was put on the 'back burner' because of the forensics necessary to complete a high-profile murder case," she said.

Morris worked for the authority from August 2002 until June 2004, when he left to take a job in Georgia as president of the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce.

He became vice president of economic development for the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce in suburban Atlanta in February. He was arrested at his office Wednesday, Reed said.

Morris waived extradition and South Boston police investigators drove him to Virginia Friday morning. He was expected to appear in court Friday afternoon, authorities said.

One of the possession charges carries a maximum of five years in prison, and the other 19 charges each carry a maximum of 10 years in prison, White said.
