Baby hospitalized, father charged

GAINESVILLE - A baby boy, who was revived by a Hall County sheriff's deputy Saturday, remains hospitalized and now the father is accused of injuring him.

The two-month-old was found unconscious and not breathing by deputy Joe Groover, who administered CPR until EMTs arrived.

After the infant was taken to the hospital, an investigation was launched and the sheriff's department has now arrested Alfonso Martinez, 24, and charged him with cruelty to children and aggravated battery.

The infant, with unspecified injuries, remains hospitalized in Atlanta.
