Baez going on DL after appendectomy

ATLANTA - Braves reliever Danys Baez went on the 15-day disabled list after undergoing an appendectomy.

Baez had the operation late Wednesday after the Braves' 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Atlanta, which was off Thursday, will call up another player before opening a weekend series against the Washington Nationals.

Baez was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers late last month to bolster the Braves' bullpen. He has pitched in 11 games for his new team, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

Overall, the right-hander is 5-6 with a 4.53 ERA in 57 games.
