No damage from overnight storms; Ernesto not to be a factor

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - There were no reports of any damage from the strong thunderstorms that rumbled through Gainesville Tuesday night, despite torrential rains and strong, gusty winds.

The storms produced the greatest one-day rainfall total in Gainesville since June 25. About an inch fell - at one point at the rate of 6 inches per hour.

At the height of the late night storm, winds were gusting to better than 40 miles an hour.

More showers are expected the rest of the week although Gainesville is not expected to be impacted very much by Ernesto which is expected to swing well to the east as it moves out of Florida and along the Georgia coast.
