Police find woman's body along Silver Comet Trail

<p>Officials in Paulding County found a woman's body Wednesday along the Silver Comet Trail, and a Smyrna Police Department spokesman said it was believed to be that of a missing 54-year-old woman.</p><p>Jennifer Ewing of Sandy Springs had gone riding on the trail on Tuesday, but failed to return home.</p><p>Col. Jim Walker of the Paulding County Sheriff's Department said the body was partially clothed and there were signs of a struggle. He said the death was being investigated as a homicide.</p><p>Earlier, Smyrna spokesman Sgt. Robert Harvey said the body found in Paulding County was "what we believe to be the body of Jennifer Ewing. The body has not been positively identified by the GBI."</p><p>Ewing's 26-year-old son, Jim Ewing, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon on behalf of the family, acknowledging his mother's death. "We had hoped and prayed for a happy outcome but instead we're faced with this tragedy," the statement said. "We ask for your prayers and support during this very difficult time."</p><p>Harvey said he believed Ewing's bicycle was also found, but said he had few details of the discovery somewhere in Paulding County.</p><p>"Paulding County is working on it," he said. "Her family has been notified."</p><p>Ewing's husband said her silver Honda minivan was found by family members after 9 p.m. Tuesday.</p><p>Ewing made a 50-mile round trip on the trail three to four times a week, family members said.</p><p>The Silver Comet Trail begins about 13 miles northwest of Atlanta. It runs 57 miles from Smyrna to the state line along an abandoned freight rail corridor, winding through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.</p>
