HOYLAKE, England - Tiger Woods maintains a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the 135th British Open at Royal Liverpool. But Chris DiMarco and Sergio Garcia have joined Ernie Els in a second-place tie.
Woods shot a 1-under-par 71 for a 13-under total as he tries to successfully defend his British Open title. Woods' round included five birdies and four bogeys. The two-time champ lost the lead with a bogey on 17 but recovered for a birdie on the final hole.
Els also birdied the last hole for a 1-under 71, keeping him one shot behind his playing partner.
Garcia is minus-12 after firing the day's best round, a 7-under-par 65. Garcia birdied the last three holes on the front nine, then closed with a birdie on the par-five 18.
Jim Furyk and Angel Cabrera each shot 66's to go to 11-under.
