Three dollar a gallon gasoline has brought out in the open some interesting things about what goes to whom in producing that gallon of gas you just put in your car. For instance, for EVERY DOLLAR you spend, 55 cents goes for crude oil, and that bugs me, for most of that goes outside the United States, Our government, in its environmental overkill wisdom, has refused to allow drilling in ANWAR, in Alaska, even though we have long had the technology for clean drilling there. And our government has cut out drilling for known resources in the Gulf, off the Atlantic coast, and off the Pacific coast. So, most of the cost of your gasoline, 55 percent, is going to Saudi Arabia, or Iran, or Venezuela. 55 percent. Then 22 cents out of every dollar you spend goes for refining. And again, primarily because of environmental over-regulation from our government, we haven't built a new efficient high-tech refinery in the United States in 30 years. So we send a big chunk of that 22 percent offshore. Then, we fuss about how greedy "big oil" is, but the cost for distribution and marketing is only four percent ... four cents out of every dollar you spend for gasoline goes for distribution and to your local service station. So, in that dollar you spend for gasoline, where does that final 19 cents go? You've got it. For taxes. If government would get its greedy hand out of your pocket, a three-dollar gallon of gasoline would only cost you $2.43. Drill in Alaska nd you can save a bunch, and the money will stay in America. Allow American companies to build refineries in America, and we save money on our gasoline and the money stays in America. And I can't figure why liberals insist "Big Oil" is the greedy one.
