GAINESVILLE - With the arrival of the first weekend of June and as summer approaches, the City of Gainesville reminds us that mandatory outdoor water use restrictions are in place.
The plan, which is in force now as part of a set of rules adopted by the state in June 2004, calls for outdoor water use other than as exempted on an odd-even basis, that according to Gainesville Environmental Monitoring Coordinator Brian Wiley
Those rules ban most residential and business outdoor water use on Fridays.
The plan was adopted two years ago following several consecutive years of severe drought. Plans are in place for stricter regulations in the event of a return of extremely dry weather.
