New jobs up in Gainesville last month

GAINESVILLE - Metro Gainesville added another 400 new jobs between April and May.

According to State Labor Department Commissioner Michael Thurmond additions were recorded during the period - a six tenths percent increase that brings the number of jobs in the area to 71,400.

Between March and April, 600 were added.

Of all 14 metro areas in the state, only Albany, Augusta and Hinesville showed a decine in the number of jobs.

The 14 metro areas of the state and their job changes from April to May include:

- Albany, down 200, or three-tenths percent, from 65,800 to 65,600.
- Athens, up 300, or four-tenths percent, from 80,300 to 80,600.
- Atlanta, up 8,400, or four-tenths percent, from 2,390,700 to 2,399,100.
- Augusta, down 300, or one-tenth percent, from 219,100 to 218,800.
- Brunswick, up 400, or nine-tenths percent, from 45,900 to 46,300.
- Columbus, up 500, or four-tenths percent, from 123,500 to 124,000.
- Dalton, up 300, or four-tenths percent, from 79,200 to 79,500.
- Gainesville, up 400, or six-tenths percent, from 71,000 to 71,400.
- Hinesville, down 200, or 1.1 percent, from 18,100 to 17,900.
- Macon, up 100, or one-tenth percent, from 101,700 to 101,800.
- Rome, up 100, or two-tenths percent, from 43,500 to 43,600.
- Savannah, up 600, or four-tenths percent, from 156,000 to 156,600.
- Valdosta, up 200, or four-tenths percent, from 55,600 to 55,800.
- Warner Robins, up 300, or six-tenths percent, from 54,100 to 54,400.
