Renteria ties Atlanta record for hitting streak to start season

<p>Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria tied an Atlanta record when he extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a first-inning single against Colorado on Monday night.</p><p>Renteria's streak is the longest to start a season for the Braves since Felipe Alou hit safely in 16 straight at the beginning of 1966, the team's first year in Atlanta.</p><p>Renteria, acquired from Boston during the offseason after Rafael Furcal signed with the Dodgers, sandwiched his streak around missing nine games with a strained rib cage muscle.</p>
