Da Vinci 'secrets' to be discussed at Brenau

GAINESVILLE - Just in time for the release of the film "The Da Vinci Code," Friends of the Hall County Library is offering the public a chance to "learn the secrets" behind the artwork of Leonardo Da Vinci.

The group is sponsoring "Decoding the Art of Da Vinci" as the focus for its annual meeting on Monday, June 5 at 7:00.

The program will be held at the Thurmond-McRae Auditorium on the campus of Brenau University.

The featured speaker will be Mary Beth Looney, Assistant Professor and Department Chair of Art and Design at Brenau University. Professor Looney also acts as Assistant Gallery Director for the Brenau University Galleries.

"The Da Vinci Code," a bestselling novel by Dale Brown, centers on attempts to unlock secrets hidden in the works of the 15th century artist which contradict some Biblical passages about the life of Jesus and Christianity's historic origins and theological development.

The movie, which is stirring controversy even before its release, opens around the country May 19.
