GAINESVILLE - Gainesville High School officially unveiled its new outdoor learning pavilion Friday.
The landscaped setting includes a stage area with concrete seating, sidewalks, a sundial, and a pedestal to mark the seasons.
Teacher Mollie Neufeld said that the area was already getting some use, "The teachers already come out and use the concrete stage area and seating to hold outdoor classes and readings, and just to enjoy the fresh air. We see people on the sundial all the time."
Students helped with much of the work on the area. Senior Kimberly Moore drafted the whole project.
"I put all of the plans onto the computer and spent numerous hours redoing the plans every time anything changed," she said, "I think it's a great opportunity for students to be involved and get outside. Hopefully, it will be my mark left on the school."
Gainesville High art students provided outdoor artwork for the pavilion, which included a mural painted by senior Candido Talavera, and an upcoming sculpture for the season marker.
The pavilion was funded with Character Through the Arts and Learn and Serve grants.
