Remembering war dead with flags

GAINESVILLE - Small American flags mark veterans graves in cemeteries in the Gainesville area this weekend... a sure sign Memorial Day is just around the corner.

Another reminder is the hillside on Dawsonville Highway next to the Masonic Lodge. The masons again this year have erected white crosses on the hill, each designating one of Hall County's war dead.

Both are years-long traditions. In addition, flags are flying from utility poles in parts of downtown.
