History center begins search for new executive director

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia History Center announces a professional search is underway for an experienced business and museum manager to assume the role of its executive director.

For the past year, according to History Center President John W. Jacobs, Jr., two dedicated individuals have given generously of their time to the History Center. Jacobs said Steve Gurr and Ken Wallace's combined talents have given the leadership that was needed by the History Center during this interim period.

"They are to be forever appreciated for their management roles when we did not have a permanent director", Jacobs said. "We are blessed to have had Steve and Ken's qualifications at our disposal during this transition lime."

The Executive Committee, in reviewing the present operation, agreed the time was now to move ahead and begin a campaign to find a permanent professional to assume the role of executive director. This Executive Committee has been designated as the official Search Committee.

Working with the Executive Committee will be the Planning Committee, who has outlined qualifications and criteria for selecting a director. Chairperson Dr. Pat Burd, assisted by Rebecca Gurr and through a membership survey, has outlined a focus and direction for the History Center, as it moves into its third year of operation in a new building.

Prospective applicants may contact Dr. Steve Gurr at the History Center at 770-297-5900 for additional information.
