Delta flight circles runway after spotting plane in path

<p>A Delta Air Lines pilot abruptly pulled out of a weekend landing after seeing another plane on the runway, but neither aircraft was in danger, officials said.</p><p>Delta Flight 1206 from Atlanta was approaching Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday afternoon when the air traffic control tower indicated it was safe to land, Delta spokeswoman Chris Kelly said Monday. But the pilot pulled up, circled around and landed safely after seeing another plane idling on the runway, Kelly said.</p><p>"It was a precautionary measure," she said. "His reasoning was that because he saw the runway was not as clear as he would have liked it to be."</p><p>The flight, with 96 passengers aboard, landed safely at about 3:40 p.m.</p><p>Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said neither flight was in danger and no investigation is under way.</p><p>"That aircraft would have completed its take off and been airborne in plenty of time for the Delta flight to land," Bergen said. "For some reason, the Delta crew decided to make a missed approach and it certainly is their prerogative to do so."</p>
