HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) Four Duke football players arrested after a fight outside of a nightclub have been ordered to complete community service in exchange for having the charges dropped.
Michael Shawn Brown, 19; Segun Adetokunbo Akande, 20; Andreas Timon Platt, 20; and Christopher Warren Davis, 20, made the deal with prosecutors Monday. They got deals similar to the one given to Larry D. Edwards Jr., a linebacker for North Carolina also accused of taking part in the fight.
Edwards was charged Feb. 5 with damage to property after officers said they saw him break a door. He has until May 22 to pay $310 in fines and fees and perform 24 hours of community service at a recreational center or a middle school.
Brown, Akande and Platt were charged with failure to disperse upon command after officers arrived to find several hundred people outside of the club. They have until July 17 to complete the same requirements if they want their charges dismissed.
Davis was also charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer who was trying to break up the fight. Davis must perform 75 hours of community service and pay $310 by July 17 to have his charges dismissed.
As part of the agreements, each defendant must not commit any criminal offenses other than minor traffic offenses until they complete the conditions of the deal.
Platt must also return to court May 15 for sentencing on a conviction of driving while impaired.
