COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina starting pitcher Arik Hempy will be out for the season after undergoing ``Tommy John'' surgery on his left elbow Friday.
The junior hurt his elbow in last weekend series against LSU.
Hempy was checked out by Dr. James Andrews' group in Birmingham, Ala., which decided he needed to have a ligament in his elbow reconstructed.
Hempy started seven games this season for the Gamecocks, going 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA over 34 innings.
