St Pius 54, Jones County 41; Marist 51, Greenbrier 33

<p>Drey Mingo scored 21 points as Marist beat Greenbrier 51-33 Wednesday night and set up a state title matchup with Region 6-AAAA rival St. Pius X.</p><p>The War Eagles (28-2) and Golden Lions (30-2) have faced off three times this season, with St. Pius X winning twice and taking the region championship Feb. 11. Marist's girls have never advanced this far in the state tournament.</p><p>St. Pius beat Jones County 54-41 in the afternoon semifinal.</p><p>In the second girls game, Greenbrier could trim the lead no more than five points after Sara Oland pulled up and hit a five-foot jumper in the third.</p><p>The Wolf Pack (28-4) couldn't match Marist's size underneath, particularly with Mingo filling the lane at 6-foot-2.</p><p>Kristine Gleason hit a 3-pointer from the right wing for a 38-26 lead late in the third quarter.</p><p>Michelle Swiec, who led Greenbrier with 12 points, hit a layup with 2.1 seconds left in the period to make it 38-28.</p><p>St. Pius coasted past Jones County as Kelley Cain used her 6-foot-5 frame to dominate inside and give the Atlanta school a chance to win its second girls state title in three years.</p><p>Chimere Jordan had 20 points for the Lady Greyhounds, who lost in the semifinals for the second straight year. Jones County (29-2) snapped a 21-game winning streak.</p><p>Cain, a junior center, helped St. Pius X keep its lead in double digits with six straight points in a 1:14 span of the fourth quarter.</p><p>After blocking a Jones County shot, Cain had putbacks to follow two missed jumpers by Taylor Davidson. She scored another basket inside with 5:42 remaining to give the Golden Eagles a 47-34 lead.</p><p>Jordan's 12-footer from the right wing cut St. Pius' lead to 35-30 with 2:22 left in the third quarter.</p><p>The Jones County girls were attempting to win a state basketball title for the first time since 1960.</p><p>St. Pius beat Marist 66-65 in overtime to win the Region 6-AAAA championship last month.</p>
