New Amtrak delays begin Monday

By by Ken Stanford
UNDATED - First it was the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that disrupted rail
service between Gainesville and New Orleans, now there's something else.

Norfolk Southern will be closing the Atlanta-New Orleans line, used by the Amtrak Crescent, periodically starting Monday and continuing through mid-April to do track work, according to the Georgia Association of Railroad Passengers.

There will be no Atlanta-New Orleans service for six four-day periods, starting each Monday between now and April 10. Daily service between Atlanta and New York, via Gainesville, will not be affected.
