19-year-old charged in wreck that caused sisters' deaths

By The Associated Press

A 19-year-old man accused of driving a car in which his two teenage sisters were killed in a wreck has been charged with drunken driving and vehicular homicide.

Umar Hussain of Forest Park was hospitalized in fair condition at Southern Regional Hospital on Monday, and when he is released, the warrants will be served on him, said Jeff Turner, assistant Clayton County Police chief.

Turner said blood was drawn to determine Hussain's blood-alcohol content, and it could take several months for test results. Because Hussain is under the legal drinking age, any amount warrants DUI charges in Georgia.

Police on the scene of Saturday night's accident said they smelled alcohol on Hussain.

Police also filed two counts of vehicular homicide, plus a count of improper lane change. Vehicular homicide in the first degree carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

Killed were Sobia Hussain, 18, a recent graduate of Riverdale High, and Faika Hussain, 16. No funeral arrangements have been announced.

Police said the Lincoln driven by Umar Hussain clipped a van in the next lane, veered over a median, crashed into an oncoming Jeep Cherokee and struck a tree.

___

HASH(0x1cd9da4)
