World Mission Conference held at Gainesville 1st Presbyterian

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville church members learned first hand about missions from the missionaries during the World Mission Conference this weekend at First Presbyterian Church.
Children learned the basics of African drum beating and parents learned of their church's mission field commitment.

Missions leader Harold Kurtz said violent revolution in Ethiopia targeted Christians where he served, but missions survived and flourished.

"Following the downfall of that revolution the church has literally exploded in Ethiopia," Kurtz said.

Conference coordinator Matt McGowan said the event featured ten workshops to update church members on the mission field.

"We're trying to motivate them, educate them, excite them to become involved in taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth," McGowan said.

McGowan said the church has an $85,000 funding goal for missions.
First Presbyterian annually sponsors its own missionaries in several countries including China, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
